5 Reasons You Feel Stuck In Your Job

By hire-up-staffing in Industry Resources
We all want to have growth and advancement in our careers – nobody wants to be stuck in a dead-end job and just go through the motions, right? After all, progressing gives not only a rewarding and accomplished feeling, but it also compensates us in more ways than one. Things like recognition, bonuses, promotions, pay raise, and others allow us to feel rewarded for a job well done.
However, what are you to do if you’re not growing?
The main point here is when you’re not growing, you feel uninspired and often would rather slack off. Conversely, there will be reasons behind that lack of development and advancement in a person’s career – sometimes you might not even realize it!
Here are five possible reasons you might not be growing in your job and you feel stuck:
You do not know what you want career-wise. In anything in life, it’s important to have focus – a goal, if you may. If you do not know exactly what you want, it will only make it more difficult for you to excel at it. Everything a person does (and inversely, doesn’t) is directly connected to your focus. Step back and analyze what is important for you, what do you enjoy and what are you good at. Segregate the important from the important. Shuffle your priorities to see which need to be done first and which can be put off (for good, if needed). With work, it sometimes helps to discuss career goals with a manager or career counselor.
You let distractions get the best of you. In today’s digital age, it’s so easy to get distracted, with everything in the palm of your hands. Who doesn’t have a smart phone nowadays, anyway? These handheld devices have plenty of apps, games, and social media sites practically entice you to not be productive. Don’t take us wrong – we love technology, but it should be used wisely. In addition, those aren’t the only distractions we have these days – it varies from person to person, so it’s up to you to determine what those distractions are.
You fall short more often than not. If you often drop the ball, you may be needing more focus in your life at work. If lately you have been missing deadlines, not reaching quotas, or generally falling short in your job responsibilities, there’s a high chance you need to refocus and reprioritize. See what contributes to your lackluster office or workplace performance and try to do something about it.
You make excuses for your less than stellar performance. There will be times people make excuses such as being distracted, unfocused, or swamped with looming deadlines. However, it’s often best to just admit mistakes and do something about it. Owning up to these errors will help you rise back faster – excuses slow you down even more.
You are not given enough opportunities to actually grow.
Because of how you act (see the four previous points), the people around you who have the ability to help your career may not see your full potential. Prove yourself worthy of more tasks by doing your job and doing it well, if not above expectations. Sooner or later management will take notice, and give you more opportunities for growth.
Bottom line is to stay focused and avoid distractions in order to produce astounding results that could lead you to the growth at work you have been looking for. You can make it happen!! Contact us if you are in Madera, Fresno, Hanford, Visalia, or Clovis, and are looking for work (559)579-1331.
