I just read an interesting article on the Business Journal website. It states that Fresno is leading the State with mobile phone web use. Statistics show that an estimated 78.2% of residents in Fresno are “advanced data” mobile phone users as compared to 72.9% of Los Angeles residents, 68.5% of Bay Area residents and 69.2% of residents in Sacramento and 76.1% in Bakersfield, according to the “California Mobile Usage Overview Report” conducted by the Center for Strategic Economic Research out of Sacramento for AT&T.
This article got me thinking…. 10 years ago I never would have imagined using my cell phone as a business, entertainment, social networking conductor. Heck, I didn’t even know what “Social Networking” was. Honestly, I cannot live without my Smart Phone!!! Because of the capabilities my phone has, I am able to keep in constant contact with my clients, applicants, co-workers, long lost friends, family and so on. It has truly made my life more productive as I can respond to a business email from the comfort of my living room while watching the latest episode of Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations on the Travel Channel. Better yet, my business relationships will no longer suffer having to wait for me to get back to them the next business day.
So, how do you feel about mobile web use while you are not officially “on the clock”? Do you feel it’s important to be accessible during the waking hours or do you feel that your personal time should be just that, your personal time? Do you enjoy being able to contact your vendors outside of the typical business hours? I’m very curious as to your thoughts. Please comment or feel free to email me directly, now that you know I will likely be checking my work email from my living room!!
