Welcome Back, Tara Johnson!

DFW just got even stronger.

We’re beyond excited to welcome Tara Johnson back to the Hire Up Staffing family! Tara is now back in action as an Account Manager in our DFW branch, and she’s more energized than ever to make a difference for our clients, candidates, and team.

Tara originally joined Hire Up in 2021 and quickly made waves—earning Rookie of the Year, reaching President’s Club, and later being named Employee of the Year in 2019. Her combination of hustle, heart, and people-first mentality made her an instant standout.

After a brief break to focus on her family and pursue her real estate license (which she nailed on the first try!), Tara knew she had unfinished business in staffing. She’s back with fresh perspective, a fire to grow, and her eyes set on new goals—including crushing her sales benchmarks and building even deeper client relationships across DFW.

Tara brings a unique edge to her role, thanks to a wide-ranging background in real estate, property management, and outside sales. She’s known for her consultative approach, her passion for connecting with others, and her belief that you can “create the life you want—make it happen.”

When Tara isn’t placing top-tier talent or scouting new business opportunities, she’s spending time with her four kids and her tight-knit family, jamming out to Morgan Wallen or Ella Langley, or sneaking in a Starbucks cranberry bliss bar (or a Red Bull when it’s go-time!). She’s also a self-proclaimed music lover and concert junkie—if there’s live music, she’s there!

Tara’s professional goal? To grow within a company that feels like home—and for her, that’s exactly what Hire Up is.

DFW clients—she’s ready to roll. If you haven’t met Tara yet, now’s the time. She’s here to help you find the talent you need, fast and with care.

Memorial Day & Beyond: Why Veteran-Focused Hiring Makes Business Sense

Each year, Memorial Day invites us to pause. To reflect on the lives lost in service to our country. To remember the cost of freedom. But for businesses, it can also be a moment to re-evaluate how we’re showing up—not just in gratitude, but in action.

Are we doing more than flying a flag or sharing a post on social media? Are we actively creating opportunities for those who have served?

At Hire Up Staffing, we believe that honoring our heroes means more than one day of remembrance. It means building bridges between military experience and civilian careers—and creating pathways that benefit both veterans and the employers who need strong, capable talent.

Why Hire Veterans? The Business Case Is Clear

Veterans bring a wealth of traits that are often difficult to train but critical in today’s workforce:

  • Discipline
  • Leadership under pressure
  • Team-oriented thinking
  • Strong work ethic
  • Strategic problem-solving

On top of these soft skills, many veterans hold certifications, technical training, or hands-on experience that transfer seamlessly into operations, logistics, engineering, medical support, or technology roles.

And here’s something many businesses overlook: there are tax advantages, too!

Federal programs like the Work Opportunity Tax Credit (WOTC) can provide up to $9,600 per eligible veteran hire, depending on factors like unemployment duration or disability status. That’s a win-win that directly benefits your bottom line while supporting those who’ve served.

Memorial Day Is a Reminder—But It Shouldn’t Be the Only Day

There are tangible ways your company can make an impact while aligning with Memorial Day’s deeper meaning:

1. Build Partnerships with Local Military Recruiters
Active-duty personnel often begin planning their civilian transition months in advance. Reach out to military transition assistance offices in your region. Developing these relationships ensures you’re on their radar when service members are looking for employment options.

2. Design a Veteran-Preferred Hiring Track
Make it clear on your career site that you prioritize veteran applicants. List military-friendly job titles, use MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) crosswalks when possible, and have your hiring team trained on how to evaluate military experience correctly. Don’t just accept military resumes—understand them.

3. Engage with Veteran Support Charities
Organizations like the Wounded Warrior Project provide career counseling, mental health resources, and support for veterans navigating post-service life. Your company can sponsor events, host workshops, or encourage employees to volunteer their time or expertise. It’s a meaningful way to get involved beyond the office.

4. Create a Veteran Affinity or Support Group
If you already have veteran employees, give them a platform. Internal groups can provide a sense of community and offer valuable feedback to leadership on how to better support transitioning service members.

5. Educate and Reflect Internally
Use Memorial Day as a catalyst. Host a moment of silence. Share a short history of the holiday. Highlight the story of a veteran employee (with permission). These gestures help ground the meaning behind the day—and reinforce your company’s commitment to service.

Final Thoughts

Memorial Day reminds us that freedom has a cost. But it also calls us to action: to honor the lives that were lost by supporting those who are still here, working to build a future after service.

Hiring veterans isn’t just a gesture of goodwill—it’s a strategic move that can bring resilience, loyalty, and leadership into your workforce. And that’s something worth investing in, not just once a year, but every day.

Simple Ways to Be Healthier While Being Productive

Let’s face it—most of us spend more waking hours at work than anywhere else. So why not make the workplace part of your health routine, too? You don’t need a full lifestyle overhaul or a gym membership to start feeling better. With a few small shifts in your workday, you can boost your energy, improve focus, and stay ahead of those sick days.

Here are some simple ways to keep wellness in motion while getting the job done:

🥗 Bring Healthier Food Options
Skip the morning donuts and grab a protein bar, fruit, or a homemade lunch that fuels you through the day. Think wraps, salads, or something as simple as yogurt and granola—your energy levels (and mood) will thank you.

🚶‍♀️ Use Your Breaks for Movement
A 10-minute walk around the building or a quick lap outside can help reduce stress, improve circulation, and reset your mind. It’s one of the easiest ways to sneak in activity without interrupting your workflow.

🧍‍♂️ Stand & Stretch Once an Hour
Desk job? Don’t let it turn into a slump. Set a reminder to stand up, stretch, or do a few shoulder rolls each hour. Better yet, get a stretch buddy and do it together—your body (and brain) will stay more engaged.

💬 Be the Wellness Role Model
Lead by example. Invite others to walk with you at lunch, encourage healthy snack swaps, or create a quick office wellness challenge. You’d be surprised how quickly others join in once someone starts.

Why Wellness Matters—and Why Hire Up Supports It

We want you to feel your best, because when you do—you work your best. That’s why Hire Up Staffing goes above and beyond to support employee wellness in a way most staffing firms don’t.

Healthier employees tend to miss fewer days, feel better overall, and are more productive in their roles. But even more importantly—you deserve to feel good and be supported in your daily life. You give your best to work, and we believe your health should get the same level of care.

💛 Gold-Level Health Insurance
Once you’ve been consistently working with us for about 6 months, you may qualify for our PPO Gold medical plan, where Hire Up pays 80% of the cost. That means your portion can be as low as $20–$40 per paycheck. It’s high-quality coverage, built for real people.

Did you know nearly 60% of Americans receive their health insurance through work? And since most of us spend more hours on the job than anywhere else, we think your workplace should support your overall well-being—not work against it.

🏃‍♀️ We Actually Encourage Healthy Living
From seasonal wellness reminders to tips like the ones above, we’re committed to helping you build better habits—without making it feel like one more job. Whether you’re working in an office, a clinic, or a warehouse, your health matters. Take regular walking breaks, stretch it out between tasks, and drink water throughout the day. These small changes can go a long way in keeping your energy up and stress levels down.

🎯 You’re Not Just a Placement—You’re a Person
We believe in long-term relationships, not just short-term assignments. That means taking care of your health, your goals, and your quality of life matters to us. We’re always looking for ways to help our team stay on track. This season, we’re sharing reminders and tips to help you get moving more, eat better, and prevent common illnesses that lead to lost work time.

You’re not just a name on a timesheet here.

At Hire Up, we’re proud to be one of the few staffing companies truly invested in your health and well-being. Whether you’re just starting a new assignment or have been with us for a while, know that we’re here to support you, cheer you on, and help you stay well while you work.

If you ever have questions about benefits, wellness tips, or how to feel better at work—reach out. And remember: We’re here to support you, every step of the way.

Moms Who Make It Happen: Balancing Motherhood and Staffing Careers

Mother’s Day is more than a holiday—it’s a celebration of strength, sacrifice, and unconditional love. At Hire Up Staffing, we’re proud to work alongside incredible women who not only thrive in their careers but also show up every day as devoted, hardworking moms.

Balancing the fast-paced world of staffing with the unpredictable, beautiful chaos of motherhood isn’t easy. But these women make it work—with grace, grit, and a whole lot of heart. In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked a few of our team members to share what it’s like to be a mom in staffing. Their stories are honest, inspiring, and a reminder that behind every successful working mom is a village—and a whole lot of determination.

Rebecca: “Three Kids, One Mission—Lead with Love”

I became a mom at a young age—still a teenager, really—and that experience shaped everything about who I am. I learned early what it meant to work hard, push forward, and figure things out with limited resources. Years later, I took that same drive and founded Hire Up Staffing at 27 years old. Now, 15 years in, I’ve grown a company I’m proud of while raising a family I’m even more proud of.

I have two children by birth and one we brought into our lives as a teenager—someone we had loved like a son for years before officially making him part of our family. They’ve seen the late nights, the sacrifices, and the celebrations. They’ve watched me show up for work and for them—and they’re the reason I keep pushing to be better.

My mission, both as a mom and a CEO, is the same: lead with love, show up with grit, and make something meaningful.

Shannon: “It Takes a Village”

“I entered the staffing industry almost four years ago as a temp assisting HR after COVID started to settle down. Hire Up Staffing saw my hidden skills, background, and desire to grow—and offered me a full-time position on the corporate team.

Balancing life as a single mom, a career, and a long commute hasn’t always been easy, but it’s been possible thanks to the understanding and flexibility of my team. One of my key strategies? Communicating early. If I need time off for an appointment or event, I let my team know as soon as I can.

My biggest tip: ‘Sometimes you can’t do everything; it takes a village, so let that village assist you.’ And if that village isn’t available, missing work should be the last resort. Because while parenting comes with schedule conflicts, work is what keeps the lights on. I’m grateful every day for a workplace that gets that.”

Tara: “Leading by Example”

“Being a full-time working mom in the staffing industry has been both rewarding and challenging. But what keeps me going is knowing that my kids get to see me showing up as the best version of myself in the workforce. I believe that example will help shape their own work ethic and drive one day.”

Kali: “Grace, Grit, and a Good Routine”

“As a first-time mama to my sweet little boy, Kade, juggling motherhood and a fast-paced career in staffing has been the most challenging—and rewarding—journey of my life.

Here’s what helps me manage both roles:

  • Structure & Flexibility: I rely on a routine, but I give myself grace when things don’t go as planned.
  • Setting Boundaries: When I’m with my son, I’m present. When I’m working, I give it my all.
  • Support System: I lean on my village—co-workers, friends, and family.
  • Remembering My Why: My son is my biggest motivator. He’s the reason I work so hard.

This chapter has stretched me, but it’s also shown me a version of myself I’m proud of—both as a recruiter and a mom.”

Sara: “Letting Go of the Guilt”

“Balancing work-life and mom-life has taught me to go with the flow. I used to thrive on lists and schedules, but motherhood taught me to expect the unexpected—like surprise school projects or allergic reactions out of nowhere.

And then there’s the mom guilt. I used to feel terrible telling my son I couldn’t play because I had a call. But now, I explain why I work hard—so we can have pizza nights, zoo trips, and a safe home. The more I share, the more he understands. Being a mom is the greatest joy of my life, and having a career I love makes it even more rewarding.”

Cathy: “The Auntie Momma”

“She’s part auntie, part second mom, and all love with a splash of side-eye. Auntie Momma is the one who shows up with snacks, wisdom, and a look that says ‘don’t try me.’ She’ll spoil you rotten, then snatch you back in line with a hug and a lecture. She’s the family’s fierce protector, the loudest cheerleader, and the keeper of juicy stories you didn’t even know you needed. Every family’s got one—or wishes they did.”

To All the Moms—We See You

These stories are a powerful reminder that being a mom and a professional isn’t about doing it all—it’s about doing what matters most with love, intention, and support. Whether it’s leaning on a village, setting boundaries, or simply showing up day after day, these women prove that motherhood and career success can go hand in hand.

To all the moms out there—especially those in staffing—we see you, we celebrate you, and we thank you. Happy Mother’s Day from all of us at Hire Up Staffing!

  • Find Your Motivation: What drives you? Keep this motivation at the forefront of your mind as you embark on your journey.
  • Leverage Resources: Use every tool at your disposal—online courses, workshops, networking events—to aid in your quest.
  • Stay Accountable: Share your goals with a trusted ally who can help keep you on track.

5. Partner with a Staffing Agency

Looking for new opportunities or need support in your professional journey? A staffing agency can be your secret weapon. Whether you’re seeking a new job or need to fill critical roles in your business, a staffing agency can do the heavy lifting. They connect you with the right opportunities and talent, allowing you to focus on what you do best. By partnering with a staffing agency, you can accelerate your growth and achieve your goals more efficiently.

Conclusion
