5 Reasons Why You Should Vote!

Here at Hire Up Staffing Services we understand the importance of voting and encourage all our clients, candidates, and employees to let their voice be heard within their communities! Early voting is already underway, so read up, take notes, and be sure to vote!

This year’s election goes beyond who will be president. Your vote is your voice on issues affecting housing, education, employment and healthcare.

Here are just a few reasons why your power is in your vote.

              1. ELECTIONS HAVE CONSEQUENCES

You have the power to decide on the quality of life you want for yourself and future generations. Voting is your chance to stand up for the issues you care about like public transportation, raising minimum wage, or funding local schools. Take the time to help decide what is best for you and your family.

2. NOT VOTING IS GIVING UP YOUR VOICE

Elections are decided by the people who go out and vote. Take some time and learn about the measures and the candidates. If you don’t vote, someone else will make the decision for you.

3. IT’S YOUR MONEY

You pay taxes, but do you know how that money is being used? Most people don’t. Voting is your chance to choose how your tax dollars are spent. For example, in California, proposition 15 is on the ballot and it requires commercial and industrial properties to be taxed based on market value and dedicates revenue. In Austin, Texas proposition A is perhaps the most ambitious mass transit item ever to come before Austin voters. It calls for a permanent increase to the city’s property tax rate to fund a $7.1 billion mass transit system.

Simply click the links below for additional information on both of these propositions along with other initiatives that are on the ballot in each state.

4. VOTING IS AN OPPORTUNITY FOR CHANGE

Do you want to make a positive impact? Voting gives you that chance! Support the candidates and ballot measures that can help your community, state, and even the nation for the greater good. There are 6 open seats in the California State Senate race and all 6 of the seats is a situation where the incumbent did not file for re-election. 5 of the 6 open seats are currently Democratic held seats. In Texas, U.S. Senator John Cornyn, is seeking his fourth term and facing his biggest general election challenge from Democratic candidate and Air Force veteran MJ Hegar.

5. THE COMMUNITY DEPENDS ON YOU

Our communities are made up of friends, loved ones, neighbors and children. Some may not know how important voting is, while others don’t have the privilege. Make the decision to vote for yourself and those around you. Proposition 22, the app-based drivers as contractors and labor policies initiative is on the ballot in California as an initiated state statute. A ‘yes” vote supports this ballot initiative to define app-based transportation and delivery drivers as independent contractors and adopt labor and wage policies specific to app-based drivers. A “no” vote opposes this ballot initiative, meaning California Assembly Bill 5 could be used to decide whether app-based drivers are employees or independent contractors. Proposition 24 is the consumer personal information law and agency initiative and is on the ballot in California. A “yes” vote supports this ballot initiative to expand the state’s consumer data privacy laws, including provisions to allow consumers to direct businesses to not share their personal information and remove the time period in which businesses can fix violations before being penalized; and create the privacy protection agency to enforce the state’s consumer data privacy laws. A “no” vote opposes this ballot initiative to expand the state’s consumer data privacy laws or create the privacy protection agency to enforce the state’s consumer data privacy laws. In Hays County, Texas, proposition D is on the ballot which is the police department oversight charter amendment initiative. A “yes” vote supports amending the city’s charter to authorize the city council to review the city’s police department’s policies and procedures; require the police chief to submit an annual report about the police operations; and establish a committee to review the department’s policies, strategies and resources. A “no” vote opposes amending the city’s charter to authorize the city council to establish procedures and a committee to review the city’s police department, thus maintaining the city manager’s review of the police department.
