Embracing the Familiar: The Rise of Boomerang Employees in 2024
In today’s fast-paced business environment, the concept of boomerang employees—individuals who voluntarily leave an organization and later return—has gained significant traction. At Hire Up Staffing & Healthcare Services, we specialize in creating and maintaining connections that transcend initial engagements, recognizing the value of these familiar faces in driving organizational success.
Creating and Maintaining Connections
Our commitment to building lasting connections extends beyond traditional staffing solutions. We understand that relationships cultivated over time are invaluable assets in any industry. Whether it’s supporting organizations in filling critical roles intermittently or placing highly vetted candidates who prefer temporary assignments, our approach hinges on understanding the unique needs of both employers and job seekers.
Pros of Hiring Boomerang Employees
- Predictability and Known Fit: Rehiring a former employee allows organizations to leverage known talents and work quality, reducing the risk associated with new hires.
- Cultural Alignment: Boomerang employees are already familiar with your company culture, making their reintegration smoother and signaling a positive endorsement of your workplace environment.
- Lower Onboarding Costs: Familiarity with company policies and procedures means less time and resources spent on training, translating to faster productivity.
- New Perspectives and Loyalty: Returning employees often bring fresh insights and a renewed commitment, having gained valuable experiences elsewhere that can benefit your organization.
- Reestablishing Customer Relationships: Boomerang employees often retain strong connections with clients, facilitating the rebuilding of trust and continuity in service delivery.
Cons of Hiring Boomerang Employees
- Unmet Expectations: There may be challenges if the returning employee expects conditions to remain unchanged from when they left, including salary and benefits.
- Resistance to Change: Adaptation to organizational changes or new leadership directions could pose hurdles for boomerang employees, affecting morale and job satisfaction.
- Impact on Team Dynamics: Reintroducing a former colleague may disrupt team dynamics, potentially causing resentment or questions about fairness among current employees.
Additional Considerations
- Past Performance and Behavior: Conducting thorough reviews of the employee’s past performance, including exit interviews and discussions with previous supervisors, can provide valuable insights into their suitability for rehire.
- Clear Rehire Policies: Establishing transparent criteria for rehiring, including salary adjustments and expectations, helps manage both the employee’s and the organization’s expectations.
- Industry Trends and Acceptance: Recognizing the evolving acceptance of boomerang employees in today’s workforce can inform your decision-making process and organizational policies.
At Hire Up Staffing & Healthcare Services, we recognize that the decision to rehire a former employee requires careful consideration of these factors. Unlocking Success: The Power of Emotional Intelligence in the Workplace
In today’s dynamic work environments, technical skills and experience are undoubtedly crucial, but there’s another key factor that often determines long-term success: emotional intelligence (EI). At Hire Up Staffing & Healthcare Services, we proudly celebrate EI as our Pillar of the Month for its profound impact on individual performance, team dynamics, and organizational culture.
Why Emotional Intelligence Matters
Emotional intelligence encompasses the ability to recognize and manage emotions, both in oneself and others. This skill set includes empathy, self-awareness, self-regulation, social skills, and motivation. In the workplace, EI plays a pivotal role in fostering healthier relationships, enhancing communication, and improving decision-making processes. Employees with high EI are more adept at navigating conflicts, collaborating effectively, and adapting to change—all critical components of a thriving workplace culture.
Celebrating EI as Our Pillar of the Month
At Hire Up, we understand that EI isn’t just a desirable trait—it’s a catalyst for professional growth and organizational success. By celebrating EI as our Pillar of the Month, we shine a spotlight on individuals who exemplify these qualities and inspire others to cultivate their emotional intelligence. We believe that fostering EI among our team members leads to higher job satisfaction, improved productivity, and a more harmonious work environment.
Increasing Workplace Emotional Intelligence
For companies looking to enhance EI within their own teams, here are some practical steps:
- Promote Self-Awareness: Encourage employees to reflect on their emotions and reactions in various situations. Self-awareness forms the foundation of EI and allows individuals to recognize their strengths and areas for improvement.
- Provide EI Training: Offer workshops or training sessions focused on emotional intelligence, covering topics such as empathy, active listening, and conflict resolution. These sessions equip employees with practical skills they can apply daily.
- Lead by Example: Leadership plays a pivotal role in setting the tone for emotional intelligence within an organization. Leaders who demonstrate EI traits—such as openness, empathy, and transparent communication—inspire their teams to follow suit.
- Encourage Feedback and Communication: Foster a culture where feedback is constructive and communication is transparent. Encouraging open dialogue helps resolve misunderstandings quickly and builds trust among team members.
- Recognize and Reward EI: Acknowledge and celebrate employees who demonstrate emotional intelligence in their interactions and decision-making. Recognition reinforces desired behaviors and encourages others to emulate them.
Embracing EI for Future Success
As we continue to navigate an evolving work landscape, the importance of emotional intelligence only grows. Companies that prioritize EI cultivate resilient, collaborative teams capable of overcoming challenges and achieving shared goals. At Hire Up Staffing & Healthcare Services, we’re committed to nurturing EI among our workforce and empowering other organizations to do the same.
Join us in embracing emotional intelligence as a cornerstone of workplace excellence. Contact me at [email protected] or visit our site and explore our blog for more insights on enhancing EI in your organization. Together, let’s unlock the full potential of emotional intelligence to foster a culture of growth, empathy, and lasting success in the workplace of 2024 and beyond.

Juneteenth: Ways that your organization can adopt a Commitment to Freedom and Inclusion
Juneteenth, celebrated annually on June 19th, commemorates the day in 1865 when Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to free the last remaining enslaved people. This significant day in American history became a federal holiday in 2021, and at Hire Up, we recognize its importance by designating it as a company floating holiday for our internal employees. As we honor this day, we also see it as an opportunity to strengthen our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI).
Here are some meaningful ways that Hire Up recognizes this day and your company can too!
1. Provide a Day Off or Floating Holiday
While private employers aren’t required to pay employees for time off on federal holidays, offering Juneteenth as a paid day off or a floating holiday demonstrates your company’s commitment to recognizing this historic event. Allowing employees to observe this day, whether by closing the office or providing a day off at a later time, underscores its significance.
2. Educate and Build a Culture of Inclusion
Juneteenth is an excellent occasion to initiate conversations about workplace diversity. If your team isn’t well-versed in the holiday’s history, consider hosting a “lunch and learn” session with a guest speaker. Local professors, civil rights advocates, and community leaders can provide valuable insights. Alternatively, cultural performances can also be a powerful way to educate and inspire your team.
3. Encourage Storytelling
Create a platform for employees to share their personal stories and experiences related to Juneteenth and diversity issues. If employees are comfortable, these narratives can be shared during informal gatherings like a brown bag lunch session.
Providing traditional Juneteenth foods, such as red beverages, red velvet cake, and barbecue, can enhance the sense of community and tradition.
4. Support Black-Owned Businesses
Show your support for the Black community by organizing a field trip or group outing to Black-owned businesses. If catering lunch for Juneteenth, choose restaurants with African-American owners or purchase supplies from Black-owned vendors.
Volunteering at organizations that assist people of color in your community can also make a significant impact and inspire your team.
5. Share Your Celebrations on Social Media
Publicly sharing your company’s Juneteenth celebrations on social media not only educates your followers about the holiday but also highlights your commitment to diversity. Showcase the various ways your company is observing the day, from educational events to supporting Black-owned businesses.
Making Juneteenth Meaningful for Your Staff
When planning Juneteenth, consider involving your staff to ensure the events are meaningful and reflective of their needs and interests. Incorporating multiple ideas and activities can enrich the experience and foster a deeper appreciation for the day’s significance.
By embracing Juneteenth and its historical importance, we not only honor the past but also reinforce our dedication to creating an inclusive and equitable workplace. Let’s unite in celebrating this day and continue advancing our efforts in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Calling all Central Valley business sponsors with BIG hearts to increase local medical care for all
If you are familiar with Hire Up Staffing Services, then you may already know our President, Rebecca Kirkman. As the owner of a leading staffing agency, Rebecca leverages her talent for connecting people and resources to help others build stronger businesses and better lives. She genuinely cares about the communities our organization serves, and with offices nationwide, her commitment runs deep. However, the Central Valley, where she calls home, holds a special place in her heart.
Rebecca Kirkman and a group of like-minded women founded the Founders Club, a network of talented professionals from California’s Central Valley dedicated to enhancing the wellbeing and health of our community through active philanthropy.
Now, more than ever, we need sponsors to support our mission and help us reach our goals.
Founders Club members generously contribute their time, resources, and talents to support Community Health System and its mission to provide the highest level of care to all patients, regardless of their ability to pay. Becoming a sponsor is a powerful way to make a difference and contribute to a cause that affects us all.
Community Health System’s story began in 1897 when Celia Burnett, the proprietor of Fresno’s only successful boarding house, gained a reputation for nursing ill travelers back to health. Partnering with local physicians, Celia helped create Fresno’s first private hospital, then named Burnett Sanitarium. In 1945, the facility became Fresno Community Hospital, and it has since evolved into Community Health System, a non-profit organization.
Though the Founders Club’s history doesn’t stretch back as far as the hospital’s, it has already made a significant impact. In just over a year since its inception, the Founders Club has raised more than $400,000. These funds support the Bob Smittcamp Neuroscience Institute, a specialized treatment center that provides essential brain and spine care within the Central Valley, sparing patients and their families from traveling out of the area for specialized treatment.
The neuroscience cause is personal for many Founders Club members, who have loved ones affected by neurological issues such as stroke, head injuries, epilepsy, and Parkinson’s. There is a critical need for more neurological resources within the Central Valley, and Rebecca excels at rallying people and resources to drive positive change.
Want to learn more about the impact of neurological disorders? Visit the Community Medical Center’s website and watch inspiring stories of Central Valley patients affected by these conditions.
Interested in supporting the Founders Club’s efforts to bring more neuroscience specialists to the Valley? Here’s how you can help:
- Sponsor a table at the upcoming black-tie optional event, Fire and Ice, on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This evening with the Founders Club will gather community leaders and philanthropists to support Community Health System and the future Bob Smittcamp Family Neuroscience Institute.

Choose to donate through Rebecca’s team or any of the other Founders Club members. https://p2p.onecause.com/founders-club/team/rebecca-kirkman?participant=rebecca-kirkman
Join the Founders Club in leading positive change. By raising awareness and financial support, we can enhance the availability of neuroscience treatment in the Central Valley. This rewarding opportunity is open to everyone, and donations of any amount make a difference. Help Rebecca and the Founders Club reach their goal to elevate the service and wellbeing of our community.

By Rebecca Kirkman, CEO
Fort Worth, Texas, known for its vibrant culture and Western charm, is gearing up for a significant event in its social calendar: the Cowtown Ball. Now in its 31st year, the Cowtown Ball stands as one of Tarrant County’s premier galas, gathering individuals from all walks of life to join in a common cause: supporting the American Cancer Society (ACS) in its mission to combat cancer.
Since its inception, the Cowtown Ball has been more than just a Western evening affair. It has become a cornerstone in the community’s efforts to raise funds for cancer research and patient support. Over the years, this event has amassed an impressive $8.5 million, contributing significantly to the ACS’s initiatives in Fort Worth and beyond!
At the heart of the Cowtown Ball is a profound commitment to the ACS’s overarching mission: to improve the lives of individuals and families affected by cancer through advocacy, research, and patient support. Founded in 1913, the American Cancer Society has been a beacon of hope for millions worldwide, catalyzing groundbreaking research and pioneering initiatives that have revolutionized cancer treatment and care.
From its humble beginnings to its current stature, the ACS has been at the forefront of numerous milestones in the fight against cancer. From spearheading research that led to the development of life-saving drugs like Herceptin to establishing vital screening guidelines for early detection, the society’s impact spans decades of dedication and innovation. Notably, the ACS’s research program, initiated in 1946, has funded over $5 billion in projects and supported 49 Nobel Prize-winning researchers, underscoring its commitment to driving transformative change.
In Texas alone, the ACS’s presence is palpable, with 59 grants totaling almost $43 million, 16 of which directly benefit the North Texas area. Moreover, the society’s initiatives extend beyond research, encompassing vital services such as transportation assistance through the Road to Recovery program and providing lodging support to patients and families through Hope Lodges and grants to hospital systems.
As the battle against cancer wages on, the ACS remains resolute in its mission, with a bold objective to reduce the mortality rate by 40% by 2035. However, achieving this ambitious goal requires collective action and unwavering support from individuals and organizations alike.
This is where you come in!
The Cowtown Ball offers an unparalleled opportunity for businesses and individuals to make a tangible difference in the fight against cancer. By becoming a table sponsor or donator, you not only align your brand with a cause that impacts countless lives but also demonstrate your commitment to corporate social responsibility.
Whether through monetary contributions, in-kind donations, or corporate partnerships, your support can help propel the ACS’s lifesaving work forward. Who is ASi
Administrative Solutions, Inc. (ASi) is a third party administrator specializing in administrative services for employer groups. These services assist employers with benefit plans as well as employee and client communications. What makes ASi unique is their customer service. There isn’t one business or person that can always be perfect and error free, but ASi stands behind their services 100% and make sure that their customers are always happy.
Benefits and Beyond
Hire Up Staffing strongly believes that employees are the backbone of a business, and they deserve to be treated exceptionally. Here are just some of the amazing benefits that this company provides to its employees! ASi offers a comprehensive benefits package to their employees including health, dental, vision, and 401K profit sharing. They also recognize hard work when they see it and offer employee bonuses! Something that we loved about ASi’s employee programs is that they continue training and advancement opportunities to team members who are driven to excel. ASi understands the importance of continuing education and works with students in college on flexible hours while attending school.
ASi has grown drastically in a matter of years. Starting out as a 3 person company, it’s been extremely important to President Barry Maas to keep the family oriented team closeness as the company rapidly expands.
