Social media is a wonderful thing – it’s probably one of the best reasons to enjoy living in the 2010s era. This doesn’t just go for individuals, but for groups of people as well. Social media has its fair share of success stories for companies big and small, startups, artists, entertainers, and even small personal businesses. Basically, if you do not have an online presence, you might as well be invisible.
For businesses, social media is a prime piece of real estate online. You may have the best looking website and amazing online shop, but if you don’t promote them well enough through social media, those things will be nothing but failed investments.
However, social media isn’t all fun and games – there is a right (and inversely, a wrong) way to do things there. Often, it’s all about timing, but it also depends what social media platforms your company is on. Here are tips for the first three of six very popular social media tools:
Facebook – 9am-7pm on Thu-Fri
“The less people want to be at work, the more they are on Facebook!” –Buddy Media
86% of posts published on weekdays show engagement peaking on Thursdays and Fridays. Mondays through Wednesdays, engagement rates fall 3.5% below average. In addition, the “Happiness Index” on Facebook goes up 10% on Fridays. Basically, any time between 9am to 7pm is good, but you’ll get the most shares on 1pm and most clicks on 3pm.
Twitter – 12pm-6pm, Mon-Fri for B2B and Wed/Sat-Sun for B2C
Twitter says users are more often logged on during their commute, at about 181% chance. They are also 119% more likely to use Twitter during work or school hours.
For the highest retweets, post at 5pm. 12pm and 6pm get best click-thru responses (CTRs). This will also depend on if you’re in for Business to Business (B2B) or Business to Consumer (B2C). Weekdays give about 14% more engagement for B2B on weekdays, while Wednesdays and weekends work best for B2C engagement and CTRs.
LinkedIn – Business Hours, Tue-Thu
93% of B2B marketers say LinkedIn is the top B2B social media platform for lead generation. LinkedIn is a mostly B2B audience, which explains why they themselves say it’s best to post during business hours on weekdays.
Web-tracking company AddThis concurred after they analyzed the movement of 14 million users – you get the most clicks and shares from 10am-11am on Tuesdays. Fannit, an inbound marketing agency, says 7-8am and 5-6pm are the best times to post as well, while Monday and Friday for US-based time zones are the worst.
